Our Training Techniques

Foundation: Basic obedience begins with positive reinforcement, with limited distractions, as trainer and dog develop mutual trust and respect.

Progression: Verbal and leash corrections with slip or pinch collar are added as the dog understands and works commands well, moving toward distractions such as barking dogs, strange people, people with dogs and other real-world situations.

Motivation: Treats are limited to very young dogs as needed, or dogs needing extra motivation.

Owner Education: Once basic obedience is established, we schedule at least two private sessions with owner and family members to teach hand signals and verbal commands, as well as teaching the owner how to reinforce the pet's training.

E-Collar Introduction: Advanced obedience is for off-leash training, starting on a 15-30 ft. line, using an E-collar (by owner's permission), which gives you complete control of your dog with no leash at all, where the E-collar acts as an invisible leash.

Gentle Transition: The substitution of e-collar corrections for the leash corrections is done gently and gradually, avoiding any trauma period where the dog doesn't understand what is being asked of him.

Essential Component: No training is complete until Owner is comfortable handling the dog – understanding how and when to use corrections to reinforce and increase the dog's ability to perform its trained commands.

Included Sessions: All types of training include two private sessions at the end of the training to ensure you can maintain and reinforce your dog's training at home.
